What You Need to Start Building in the Metaverse

Our courses starting February 2026 work with most modern hardware. But here's the thing—metaverse development and AI training actually run better on specific setups. We've tested this extensively with our curriculum.

Hardware Essentials

  • Intel Core i5 (8th gen) or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 minimum
  • 16GB RAM recommended for smooth workflow
  • NVIDIA GTX 1660 or AMD RX 580 graphics card
  • 250GB SSD storage space for development tools
  • Stable internet connection (10 Mbps minimum)

Software Environment

  • Windows 10/11 (64-bit) or macOS 11 and above
  • Unity 2022 LTS or Unreal Engine 5.1
  • Python 3.9+ for AI development modules
  • Visual Studio Code or similar code editor
  • Git version control system installed

Last year, we had students trying to run everything on 8GB RAM. It technically worked, but the constant crashes became frustrating. You can learn metaverse development on lower specs, but you'll spend more time waiting than creating.

Look, we understand not everyone has a gaming rig ready to go. Some of our most successful students from 2025 started with laptops and upgraded as they progressed through the program.

If your current setup falls short, here are practical approaches that worked for others:

  • Cloud-based development environments like AWS WorkSpaces or Shadow PC can handle heavy rendering tasks remotely
  • External GPU enclosures (eGPU) can boost laptop graphics performance through Thunderbolt 3 connections
  • Starting with 2D UI design and scripting modules while saving for hardware upgrades
  • Lab access at our Kuching facility provides high-spec workstations during intensive project weeks
  • Used workstation PCs often provide better value than new consumer laptops for development work
